The Concussion Legacy Foundation

Flag football is a version of football that does not allow tackling or hitting, but instead uses flags attached to the players’ belts to indicate when they are down. Flag football is recommended by the Concussion Legacy Foundation, a nonprofit organization that educates and advocates for brain health and safety in sports. The Concussion Legacy Foundation strongly advises parents to delay enrolling their children in tackle football until the age of 14, because research shows that playing tackle football before that age increases the risk of developing chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease caused by repetitive brain trauma. CTE can cause memory loss, depression, dementia, and other serious problems later in life.

This is an educational campaign for parents that aims to raise awareness about the benefits of playing flag football before age 14. The campaign features a white paper that summarizes the scientific evidence on the link between tackle football and CTE, as well as an all-time greatest team composed of NFL legends who did not play tackle football until high school. You can read the white paper and see the all-time greatest team at https://concussionfoundation.org/programs/flag-football.
