The Philadelphia Eagles

If you are a girl who loves football and wants to play the game in Pennsylvania or New Jersey, you are in luck. The Philadelphia Eagles are leading the way in promoting girls flag football as a high school sport in the region. Here is everything you need to know about this exciting opportunity.

What is girls flag football?
Girls flag football is a non-contact version of American football that is played by female athletes. The rules are similar to regular football, except that instead of tackling, players pull flags attached to the ball carrier’s belt to stop the play. Girls flag football is a fast-paced, fun, and competitive sport that develops skills such as teamwork, leadership, and athleticism.

Why should girls play flag football?
Girls flag football is a great way to enjoy the game of football without the risk of injury from contact. It also provides girls with physical, mental, and social benefits, such as improved fitness, confidence, and friendship. Girls flag football can also open doors for academic and athletic scholarships, as well as career opportunities in coaching, officiating, or broadcasting.

How can girls play flag football in Pennsylvania or New Jersey?
Thanks to the Philadelphia Eagles, girls flag football is growing rapidly in the area. In 2022, the Eagles launched the inaugural high school Girls Flag Football League presented by Planet Fitness, The Bellwether District, and Gatorade. The league started with 16 teams from Philadelphia public schools and expanded to 32 teams from Pennsylvania and New Jersey in 2023.

The league runs from March to May and culminates in a championship game at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles provide uniforms, equipment, coaching clinics, and other support for the participating schools. The league is free for all players and coaches.

If you are interested in joining or starting a girls flag football team at your high school, you can contact Dan Levy, the Eagles Youth Football & Community Relations Manager, at LevyD@eagles.nfl.com. You can also visit https://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/community/girlsflagfootball/ for more information.
